About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) role at RHA Health Services involves providing essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as those facing mental health and substance use challenges. The DSP will assist clients in communicating their needs, implementing personalized support plans, and promoting independence through various community activities. This position is focused on fostering positive relationships and enhancing the quality of life for individuals served.

Responsibilities

  • Provide education on human, legal, and civil rights.
  • Promote healthy living and prevent illness and accidents.
  • Increase awareness of self-advocacy and support individual choice and decision-making.
  • Accompany people to work, movies, concerts, shopping, and other community outings.
  • Teach independent living skills.
  • Provide transportation to appointments.
  • Foster positive relationships within the community.
  • Promote decision-making about living, work, and social relationships.
  • Assist with personal care and bathing, help around the home (laundry, cleaning, and decorating).
  • Document the care provided.
  • Understand diverse challenges of those living with disabilities and use effective advocacy strategies.
  • Connect people with resources to further explore opportunities in their career, education, volunteerism, etc.
  • Promote effective communication.
  • Assist in medication administration where state law allows.
  • Protect confidentiality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Meet all pre-employment screening requirements.
