About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) at STAR, Inc. is responsible for providing support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities. This role emphasizes prioritizing the needs and desires of participants, ensuring their safety, and promoting independence through various program services and recreational activities. The DSP will also handle medication administration and documentation, while fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for all residents.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize needs and desires of participants as first responsibility.
  • Displays an overall commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  • Follows all safety guidelines/policies, as well as OSHA guidelines.
  • Responsible for the general safety of all residents under supervision.
  • Administers and documents all medications and treatments as per medication certification and policies.
  • Implements all program services and ensures teaching strategies are followed as per individual plans.
  • Implements recreation activities for all residents according to their skill level and interests.
  • Ensures all residents practice appropriate grooming and hygiene, assisting as necessary.
  • Provides transportation for residents as needed, using personal vehicle when required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience in a related field preferred.
