About Misericordia Home: Misericordia offers a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged. On its 37-acre Chicago Campus, Misericordia serves more than 600 children and adults from diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds, offering a spectrum of residential options and wide variety of programs. Residential settings include: * CILAs (Community Integrated Living Arrangements for small groups in neighborhood homes outside Misericordia's main campus) * On-campus apartments * Group homes on-campus * Skilled nursing residence Misericordia residents are important citizens of the greater Chicago community. Some residents work regularly at Chicago businesses. Other businesses outsource projects to be performed on-campus by Misericordia residents. Community volunteers bring their expertise to Misericordia. Residents regularly go on community excursions for social and recreational events. Misericordia strives to involve its residents in all feasible aspects of community living. Misericordia receives support for operations from the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the Department of Children and Family Services and the Illinois State Board of Education. Misericordia is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation providing help for those in need since 1921. With the support of affiliated groups, legislators and volunteers, and through the generosity of corporations, foundations, individuals and families, Misericordia will continue to work toward a bright future where persons with disabilities achieve maximum independence and realize their greatest potential - in an environment of dignity, challenge, respect and spirituality. This apprenticeship program is a 1-year commitment and for students who have earned 30 credit hours (or completed the Basic Nursing Assistant Adult Education Career Bridge program) toward their degree. When you start this apprenticeship on August 2024, you will split your week - both attending classes at CCC and working as an apprentice at Misericordia until May 2025. In June 2025, after graduation and earning your Associate's degree, you will become a full-time apprentice, working 40 hours per week (eligible for full benefits) with Misericordia Home until June 2026.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with our residents assisting them with Activities of Daily Living
• Support residents in reaching their highest level of independence by working with them to learn and maintain skills
• Work as part of a team to ensure quality care of residents in their home in addition to supporting them in activities, resource events, and community outings

Requirements

• HSD/GED is required
• Authorized to work in the US is required
• Successful completion of paid training by Misericordia Home (DSP Certification)
• Availability to work weekends during the first year of the apprenticeship
• Must be at least 18 years old

Benefits

• Hourly Wage: $20.00/hour + 2.00/hour extra AM shift weekend
• $20.00/hour +3.00/hour extra PM shift weekday
• $20.00/hour +5.00/hour extra PM shift weekend
• Partial Tuition Reimbursement: After three months in the apprenticeship program, apprentices may apply for up to $2000 per year in tuition reimbursement for classes taken at City Colleges of Chicago.
