About the position

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at the Center for Human Development (CHD) involves providing essential care and support to developmentally disabled adults in a community-based group home. The role emphasizes creating a supportive residential environment that encourages individuals to grow and live as independently as possible. The DSP will work collaboratively within a team, ensuring open communication and accountability while advocating for the individuals in their care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal care such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Administer medications as needed (training provided).
  • Advocate for individuals in community settings.
  • Build professional, supportive relationships with individuals, offering informal guidance with a person-centered approach while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Provide opportunities to optimize individuals' independence.

Requirements

  • Ability to complete medication administration training (MAP certification).
  • Previous experience working with individuals with dementia or behavioral complexities is highly encouraged.
  • All candidates must complete and pass a background record screening process.
  • Must have a vehicle for work use and a current driver's license.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and MAP certification preferred.
  • Must be flexible to work a 2nd shift schedule, 3pm-11pm, that includes weekends.
