About the position

The Dining Services Director is responsible for overseeing all food service operations within the community, ensuring high standards of nutrition and food quality for residents. This role involves managing food preparation, dining room operations, and delivery services, while also ensuring compliance with health regulations. The director will also plan dining events, manage staff, and maintain budgetary controls to enhance the dining experience for residents.

Responsibilities

  • Directs food service operations including food preparation, dining room operations, and delivery services.
  • Purchases food and manages inventory to ensure effective cost controls and vendor service quality.
  • Ensures high nutrition and food quality for residents.
  • Complies with all regulations to ensure sanitary and safe operations.
  • Plans and executes dining events in collaboration with other administrative staff.
  • Hires, trains, and manages supervisory staff for kitchen and dining services.
  • Coaches supervisors on staffing levels and training associates.
  • Consults with chefs to develop and maintain nutritious menus.
  • Assesses residents' food preferences through surveys and daily contact.
  • Coordinates with dieticians and nursing staff to ensure proper meal preparation and delivery.
  • Develops department budget including purchasing and staffing expenditures.
  • Monitors budget compliance and recommends changes as needed.
  • Encourages socialization through food presentation and events.
  • Improves dining room décor and condition for a pleasant experience.
  • Networks with Regional Food Service Directors to enhance operations.

Requirements

  • College degree in food service or hospitality management preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in the food service industry, including three years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience managing food inventories and budgets.
  • Current ServSafe Certification required.
  • Local, state, and/or county food handling/sanitation licenses and/or certificates.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in catering events as requested by residents or staff.
  • Ability to manage a large number of associates directly and through supervisors.
