About the position

The Digital Accessibility Testing Consultant at Harvard University is a full-time position within the Information Technology (HUIT) department, focused on ensuring that digital content and technology are accessible to all users. The role involves testing and evaluating the accessibility of websites, applications, and documents, providing guidance on accessibility issues, and collaborating with various stakeholders to promote digital inclusion across the university. This position is part of a larger initiative to implement a university-wide digital accessibility policy and improve campus technology accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Test websites, applications, and documents for accessibility barriers using manual and automated testing tools.
  • Identify, document, and report on accessibility issues found during testing.
  • Provide guidance and documentation on methods to address identified accessibility issues.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and accurate testing and guidance.
  • Manage a portfolio of websites and applications to deliver established accessibility deliverables.
  • Contribute to the planning and documentation of tools and processes for accessibility testing.
  • Act as a liaison between the Digital Accessibility Services team and campus partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years' post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
  • Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify accessibility barriers quickly.
  • Fluency with assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, and ZoomText.
  • Knowledge of compatibility issues affecting assistive technology use with common systems.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Drupal, WordPress, or PHP.
  • Enthusiasm and flexibility in acquiring new technology skills.
