About the position

The Dietary Services Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and sanitation regulations. This role involves ensuring meals are visually appealing and palatable while maintaining proper food safety and storage practices. The cook will also oversee kitchen cleanliness and compliance with health regulations, stepping in as the lead in the absence of the Culinary Services Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality and protect HIPAA regulations.
  • Follow standardized recipes to ensure meals are visually appealing and palatable.
  • Cook and prepare meals according to therapeutic and modified textures.
  • Read recipes and meal tickets for proper meal distribution.
  • Store food and other items properly, following FIFO guidelines.
  • Prepare all menu items for the shift and prep food for the next shift.
  • Maintain proper portion control by following spreadsheets.
  • Keep the kitchen clean by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and removing trash.
  • Record cooking temperatures of all hot foods and maintain sanitation logs.
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines, following the Federal Food Code and local regulations.
  • Perform other kitchen duties as assigned by the Culinary Services Manager.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Servsafe Manager Certified or willing to take the class to become certified.
  • Prior cooking experience, preferably in healthcare.
  • Ability to stand for 95% of the shift and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and twist.
  • Willingness to take a TB test and pass a healthcare background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to use standard kitchen equipment such as grills, ovens, and mixers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior cooking experience in a healthcare setting.
