About the position

The Dietary Aide at St. John Neuman Center for Rehab and Healthcare is responsible for the sanitary and safe handling of food and equipment, ensuring that meals are served according to modified diets and mealtime schedules. This entry-level position involves direct interaction with residents, requiring flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Wait on tables and set up trays for patient food service following posted menus.
  • Set up dining room and trays with placemats, napkins, silverware, cups, condiments, etc.
  • Serve appropriate food on general and modified diets to residents in the dining room and on trays.
  • Clean and sanitize tables, hi-boys, kitchen counters, cabinets, garbage bins, coffee carts, and work areas.
  • Break down dirty trays from hi-boys and sweep floors, cleaning chairs in the assigned section.
  • Prepare desserts, nourishments, and specials as needed.
  • Report to the Food Service Supervisor about meal substitutions and refusals.
  • Deliver nourishment to floors and coffee to Administration.
  • Deliver and pick up food carts in patient care areas.
  • Exercise judgment and initiative in dealing with patients and making last-minute diet changes.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and follow written and oral directions in English.
  • Some previous experience as a waiter/waitress is desirable.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and work effectively with residents and staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in food service or as a dietary aide is a plus.
