About the position

The Diesel Technician position at The Gear Shop involves performing maintenance and repairs on various makes and models of diesel vehicles. The role emphasizes preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of diesel equipment, ensuring that drivers can trust the quality of service provided. The technician will work independently and as part of a team, contributing to the shop's reputation for quality work and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and identify necessary or recommended repairs to various makes and models of diesel vehicles.
• Diagnose issues upon starting and throughout the repair process.
• Repair various types of diesel equipment including clutch replacements, suspension work, A/C repair, and brake jobs.
• Log in and out of jobs to accurately track job hours and productivity/efficiency.
• Document work performed and observations of job conditions as work is performed and upon completion.
• Inspect and document the final checkout process of job completion.
• Obtain and document parts for designated jobs.
• Complete jobs independently, multitask between jobs, and communicate with supervisor in a timely, proactive manner.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of diesel experience.
• Must possess own tools to perform maintenance and repairs; specialty tools are provided.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with all members of the staff.
• Strong organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
• Must be able to lift 75lbs.
• Ability to work independently AND as a team member.
• Punctual, reliable, able to follow directions, multi-task, and show initiative.
• Prioritizes safety, efficiency, being proactive, and a positive attitude.
