About The Position

Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients of all ages, according to approved protocols, ultrasound exposure, safety, and established exam indicators. Schedules and obtains history from patients. Evaluates the appropriateness of requested exams and assists radiologists. Maintains knowledge of equipment and instruments/supplies pertinent to high-quality exams. Provides effective internal and external patient communication consistent with age and mental capacity. Some travel between sites is expected.

Requirements

  • Medical Imaging License issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging (OBMI) prior to hire date.
  • RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography -ARDMS) required.
  • Abdomen (ABD) and Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN) registries as provided by the ARDMS required within one year of employment.
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS or as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric as applicable).

Nice To Haves

  • Registered as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) preferred.
  • If registry not currently held, employee must be registered within one year as condition of continued employment.
  • Employee must be registered within one year as condition of continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients of all ages, according to approved protocols, ultrasound exposure, safety, and established exam indicators.
  • Schedule and obtain history from patients.
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of requested exams and assist radiologists.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment and instruments/supplies pertinent to high-quality exams.
  • Provide effective internal and external patient communication consistent with age and mental capacity.
  • Ensure the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
  • Perform ordered procedures according to subspecialty protocols and procedures, ensuring that optimum exams are acquired in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Respond to all patient care criteria according to SARMC policies and procedures for patient care, including, but not limited to Code Blue Preparedness, Universal Precautions, Radiation Safety Standards and CPR.
  • Keep accurate and updated documentation of medications on inventory and medications utilized.
  • Schedule patients and radiologists for procedures utilizing specialty area and departmental scheduling protocols.
  • Maintain availability when on call and respond within 30 minutes.
  • Be flexible with shifts and patient assignments including filling shifts in order to cover sick leave, time off, and bereavement within the Health System.
  • Make productive use of time and ensure that department is stocked, clean, and orderly and all assigned tasks are completed.
  • Work independently.
