About the position

The Boys' 7th Grade Basketball Coach at Drexel Hill Middle School is a part-time, seasonal position responsible for coaching and mentoring student-athletes. The role requires effective leadership, communication, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and sportsmanlike environment. The coach will work closely with the school community to enhance the students' athletic experience while adhering to the school's mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and general team management in daily practice, skills, and character development.
• Remain current with theories and techniques in basketball coaching.
• Attend all coaches' meetings and collaborate with assistant coaches and student managers.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coaches, athletic administrators, students, parents, and the community.
• Evaluate and assess players' skills and select team rosters.
• Manage team equipment and keep the scorebook current.
• Report areas of concern to Athletic Directors regarding fields, transportation, facilities, and student behavior.
• Initiate regular communication with student-athletes and parents.
• Follow school procedures regarding transportation, injuries, and participation.
• Monitor student-athlete academic progress and provide academic advisement.
• Enforce the CCS Student Code of Character and promote good citizenship as a role model.

Requirements

• Prior successful coaching experience, preferably at the high school and/or college level.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong character with a team-oriented spirit and the ability to connect with students.
• Considerable knowledge of and experience coaching basketball, including competitions and practices.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to organize and prioritize work.
• High school or collegiate playing experience.
• Experience working with middle and high school-aged students.
• A positive student-centered approach to coaching.
• Demonstrated technical, theoretical, and applied knowledge pertinent to basketball coaching.
• CPR and first aid certified or the ability to become certified.
• Strong affinity for the mission of Upper Darby School District.

Nice-to-haves
