About the position
The PBS DISTRIBUTION PLANNING Department of the P T&D AND INTERCONNECTION PLNG Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. This posting seeks to fill at either the Designer II or Engineer II; whichever level is most suited to the qualifications of the applying candidate. The role involves evaluating and recommending solutions for the safe, reliable, and orderly development of Hawaii's distribution system, performing planning studies, and analyzing system integration of new customer loads and distribution energy resources.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and recommend solutions for the development and enhancement of Hawaii's distribution system.
- Perform planning studies and analyses for system integration of new customer loads and distribution energy resources.
- Conduct traditional distribution planning including forecasting and analysis of distribution substation transformer and circuit loadings.
- Develop solutions for normal and emergency overloads and abnormal voltage conditions.
- Review and recommend circuit and infrastructure requirements for large customers and subdivisions.
- Perform technical reviews and interconnection studies for DER and utility-scale generation.
- Analyze potential DER grid services to solve distribution grid needs.
- Conduct distribution non-wires alternative analysis related to capital deferral of traditional wires projects.
- Prepare reports and presentations for upper management and stakeholders.
- Participate in committees, task forces, and special projects related to the distribution system.
- Investigate practices of other utilities and keep abreast of industry changes.
- Participate in Company emergency response activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Technical knowledge of electrical engineering principles in power system analysis.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications.
- 1-2 years of engineering work experience for Designer II; 5-7 years for Engineer II.
- Professional Engineer Registration in the State of Hawaii for Engineer II.
Nice-to-haves
- Emphasis in Power System Analysis.
- Working knowledge and experience in T&D design and/or operations.
