About the position
The Designated Institutional Official (DIO) is a key leadership role at Memorial Medical Center, responsible for overseeing and managing all graduate medical education (GME) programs. This position combines executive management with educational responsibilities, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and fostering a supportive environment for resident education and patient safety. The DIO will also engage in clinical practice and scholarship, making it a dynamic and multifaceted role.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the success of all existing and future graduate medical education (GME) programs.
- Manage the ACGME-accredited Sponsoring Institution and accredited residency program.
- Supervise residents and evaluate their responsibilities and performance.
- Ensure compliance with duty-hour standards for residents.
- Facilitate resident participation in patient safety and quality of care education.
- Engage in clinical practice up to 20% of the time and allocate 20% for scholarship activities.
Requirements
- MD or DO degree with a Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent experience in management, Public Health, and/or Leadership.
- Five years of recent management experience in an undergraduate or graduate medical education setting.
- Experience in a GME leadership position, preferably as a DIO or associate DIO.
- Board certified by a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties or equivalent credentials.
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Georgia or ability to obtain a medical license.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in teaching residents and fellows.
- Previous experience as a residency/fellowship program director or academic department chair.
