About the position

The Designated Classified Preschool Substitute at Bourbon County School District plays a crucial role in supporting the educational process in the absence of the regular teacher. This position is responsible for ensuring that each child can pursue their education smoothly, assisting with various tasks that facilitate learning and classroom management.

Responsibilities

  • Making instructional materials and aids.
  • Escorting children to and from the lunchroom and helping with lunchroom duties.
  • Performing errands and other miscellaneous chores.
  • Typing master copies, tests, and reports.
  • Keeping records of dues, fees, and selling school supplies.
  • Requesting and distributing supplies.
  • Helping with library duties.
  • Keeping the lab orderly and clean.
  • Making posters and bulletin boards that follow class projects.
  • Gathering hands-on materials that go with projects or lessons that carry over to the regular classroom.
  • Troubleshooting minor repairs of computer equipment.
  • Talking with teachers and integrating the lab with the classroom under the direct supervision of the regular classroom teacher.
  • Researching software to go with projects and classroom instruction.
  • Loading programs on hard drives when necessary and appropriate.
  • Lifting and moving materials.
  • Assisting special needs students with accommodations.
  • Working with small groups of students on teacher-directed activities under direct supervision.
  • Assisting the bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus.
  • Monitoring and assisting students while the bus is in operation.
  • Consulting with and assisting the bus driver in documentation of student information and recordkeeping.
  • Assisting parents and school personnel with the safe loading and unloading of students.
  • Communicating with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems, and behavior as appropriate.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
  • Attending Professional Development meetings and training courses.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
