About the position

The Designated Assistant Store Manager at Food City is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the grocery department and assisting the Store Manager in managing the entire store. This role is crucial in maintaining a customer service-oriented environment, achieving budgeted sales and profit goals, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations. The position requires strong leadership skills to supervise and develop store personnel while promoting a friendly and well-trained atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Manage overall daily operations of the grocery department.
  • Assist Store Manager in managing the entire store location.
  • Responsible for achieving grocery department budgeted sales and profit goals.
  • Supervise, lead, and develop grocery and store personnel.
  • Ensure a customer service-oriented environment that is friendly and well-trained.
  • Maintain quality and freshness of products and cleanliness of the store.
  • Assist in increasing store sales through strong merchandising skills and promotions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security measures for the grocery department.
  • Interact professionally with management, associates, and customers.
  • Oversee fund-handling procedures for safety and loss prevention.
  • Monitor compliance with local, state, federal, and company labor guidelines.
  • Complete and send grocery department reports and paperwork as required.
  • Participate in meetings with department heads and associates.
  • Maintain adequate inventory levels and monitor accurate retail pricing.
  • Responsible for back room conditions and inventory levels in dairy cooler and walk-in freezer.
  • Help resolve complaints or issues from management, associates, and customers.
  • Understand and enforce health department rules and OSHA guidelines.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School graduate; college education is helpful.
  • Three to five years of experience in retail operations, with at least one year as a department manager.
  • Ability to meet standard physical, mental, and visual demands.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
