Caterpillar Inc. seeks Design Engineer at its facility located at 200 NE Adams St., Peoria, IL 61629. Design, develop, build, and implement new components, products, or technologies. Help drive new technology advancement. Execute and deliver key elements of APQP such as: Requirements Management, Boundary Diagrams, Interface Analysis, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification Plans and Report (DVP&R), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Process Control Plan. Deliver recommended design and process actions, special process controls, and validation activities to mitigate high-risk areas. Contribute to concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes. Perform complex analysis work to identify design/process risk and develop mitigation plans. Work with different organizations within Caterpillar, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams. Organize and prioritize sequence of steps to be taken. Identify causes for problems based on prior experience and current research. Quantify costs, benefits, risks and chances for success before recommending a course of action. Approach complex problems by breaking it down into its component parts. Choose among a diverse set of analytical tools according to the nature of the situation. Recognize changing demands and priorities; validate changes with management. Complete work according to assigned priorities. Respond to day-to-day operational priorities while making progress on projects. Perform at least 2-3 concurrent activities without reducing productivity. Provide effective technical solutions to routine functional challenges via sound technical competence, effectively examine implications of events and issues. Effectively perform technical job aspects, continuously build knowledge and keep up to date on technical and procedural job components. Apply technical operating and project standards based on achieving excellence in delivered products, technologies and services. Apply current procedures and technologies to help resolve technical issues. Help others solve technical or procedural problems or issues. Telecommuting: 3 days/ week.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or a related field.
  • 4 years of experience as a Product Design Engineer, Quality Engineer, or related occupation in Advanced Product Quality Planning.
  • Experience utilizing Requirements Management, Boundary Diagram, Interface Analysis, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification Plans & Report (DVP&R), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Process Control Plan.
  • Experience in project execution and working with suppliers, customers, and internal product development teams.
  • Experience utilizing techniques and tools such as Eight disciplines (8D) problem solving, Global 8D, Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), or 5 Why’s.
  • Experience utilizing engineering product design software such as Creo Parametric, AutoCAD, SolidWorks.
  • Experience utilizing Project Management tools and leading cross functional engineering teams for the development of new products.
