This position is part of our product development excellence organization, known as Team@Excellence, where you will lead Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) in collaboration with our product development teams. As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and delivering key elements of APQP, which includes Requirements Management, Boundary Diagram, Interface Analysis, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification Plans & Report (DVP&R), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Process Control Plan. You will work closely with design teams to develop product architecture definitions and ensure that all requirements are appropriately linked within the product hierarchy. Your role will also involve performing complex analysis work to identify design and process risks, developing mitigation plans, and contributing to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes. You will need to communicate technical information effectively to various stakeholders, including different organizations within Caterpillar, suppliers, and customers. Success in this role requires excellent analytical skills, a mastery of engineering concepts, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver key elements of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) including Requirements Management, Boundary Diagram, Interface Analysis, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Design Verification Plans & Report (DVP&R), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and Process Control Plan.
  • Work with design teams to develop product architecture definition through boundary diagrams.
  • Develop and deliver level-appropriate requirements with linkage to levels above and below in product hierarchy.
  • Deliver a comprehensive list of recommended design and process actions, special process controls, and validation activities to mitigate high-risk areas.
  • Contribute to the concept, development, and design of complex components, subsystems, or processes.
  • Perform complex analysis work to identify design/process risk and develop mitigation plans.
  • Work directly with different organizations within Caterpillar, suppliers, customers, and/or other teams, communicating technical information concisely and accurately.

Requirements

  • Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts.
  • Ability to manage professional development by continuously learning through experiences and staying abreast of new technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with related processes such as Integrated Product Development System (IPDS).
  • Knowledge of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
