About the position
The Design Engineer at STS Aerospace will be responsible for the design of fixturing and tooling necessary for manufacturing assembly and inspection of products. This role involves collaboration with various engineering and production teams to ensure effective manufacturing methodologies and continuous improvement of processes.
Responsibilities
- Defining manufacturing methodology with design, manufacturing and process engineers.
- Write & edit special process procedures, operating instructions.
- Submit technical documents to quality for approval.
- Provide technical support for all personnel.
- Continuous improvement of the process and documentation.
- Collaborate with project management on New Product Development.
- Work with tool room and machine shop.
- Receive input from manufacturing, process, method and manufacturing engineering.
- Rewrite or edit documentation to capture changes in manufacturing method.
- Interpret customer specifications.
- Implement mistake proofing techniques.
- Create drawings for toolroom and machine shop.
- Listen to inputs from production, management, quality, planning and purchasing personnel to improve the process.
- Handle any other projects or designs requested by the Engineering or Production Manager.
- Design with safety considerations for operators and the company.
Requirements
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (preferably CREO/Pro-E), MS Office products, Outlook, ERP Systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience in fixture design.
- Trained in problem-solving skills such as 5 whys, fishbone diagram, six sigma, etc.
- Curiosity to solve problems, ability to brainstorm and experiment, and openness to new ideas.

- Experience in aerospace industry design standards.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and methodologies.
