About the position

The DB Project Design Director at HNTB is a pivotal role within the DesignBuild organization, responsible for leading and managing large-scale transportation infrastructure projects. This position focuses on ensuring quality work, timely delivery, and adherence to budget constraints while fostering strong client relationships. The director will oversee all aspects of project management, including technical operations, contracting, and risk management, implementing HNTB's project delivery plan effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and nurture key client relationships, serving as the primary company contact on assigned projects.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and strategies.
  • Manage financial performance on projects, including proactive management of cash, budget, schedule, and project scope.
  • Set priorities and engage required resources through collaboration with Group Directors, Department Managers, and Section Managers.
  • Collaborate with office and division leadership to solve challenges and ensure business objectives are met.
  • Supervise and mentor project teams to achieve overall project objectives, overseeing Project Managers where appropriate.
  • Oversee project staffing, including recruitment, hiring, development, retention, and succession planning for project staff.
  • Lead pursuits of mega projects and participate in pursuit teams for super mega projects, developing long-term strategies with Client Service Leaders.
  • Prepare proposal and presentation materials, leading interviews and presentations to clients and within the industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 12 years of relevant experience, including 4 years of experience managing and delivering mega and/or super mega projects.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
