About the position

The Deputy Sheriff position involves performing technical law enforcement and investigative duties under general supervision. The role includes patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls for service, conducting investigations, making arrests, and maintaining public safety. The Deputy Sheriff is responsible for preparing reports, securing crime scenes, administering first aid, and engaging in community awareness activities. This position may also involve specialty assignments in areas such as boating safety, criminal investigations, and K-9 handling.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to prevent crime and enforce laws.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
• Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations on crimes and traffic collisions.
• Arrest violators of the law and prepare detailed reports.
• Secure accident and crime scenes and manage crowd control.
• Administer first aid and CPR as needed.
• Identify, collect, and secure evidence for criminal investigations.
• Transport and book arrestees, and assist in surveillance work.
• Execute various writs, subpoenas, and court orders, and appear in court to present evidence.
• Maintain patrol vehicle and equipment according to department standards.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training certification within one year of appointment.
• Successful completion of a background check, physical, psychological and polygraph examination, and drug test prior to appointment.
• Must be 21 years of age and a United States Citizen.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
