About the position
The Utah County Sheriff's Department is the law enforcement agency in the county and is responsible for the preservation of the peace. The Sheriff and deputies make arrests, oversee the courts and the County Correctional Facility, and prepare legal documents for the Sheriff's sale. Under the general direction of a Sergeant-Enforcement, performs court security services and/or assigned law enforcement activities. Incumbents in this classification are required to have relevant experience and/or higher education completed.
Responsibilities
- Perform court security services.
- Conduct assigned law enforcement activities.
- Make arrests as necessary.
- Oversee the courts and the County Correctional Facility.
- Prepare legal documents for the Sheriff's sale.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four (4) years of certified law enforcement work experience, or
- Associate degree in Psychology, Sociology, Education, Criminal Justice, Communications or any social science field plus two (2) years of certified law enforcement work experience, or
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Education, Criminal Justice, Communications or any social science field.
- Possess or obtain Law Enforcement Officer certification through the Utah State Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Agency during the probationary period.
- Maintain POST certification and complete required annual training.
- Possess a valid driver's license and obtain a valid State of Utah driver's license within sixty (60) days of employment.
