About the position

Dunn Companies is seeking a highly skilled and forward-thinking Deputy Director of Information Technology to join our growing team. This strategic and hands-on leader will work closely with the Director of IT Systems to manage, support, and evolve all software platforms and technology operations across the organization. The successful candidate will be deeply involved in learning and mastering all critical systems and business processes, with the future goal of assuming full leadership of the IT Systems function. This individual must possess strong technical capabilities, a deep understanding of cybersecurity practices, and a proactive approach to driving technological innovation and operational excellence across companies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the right hand to the Director of IT Systems, supporting the oversight of all IT systems, networks, and applications.
  • Proactively learn and master all software programs, systems, and processes used throughout Dunn Companies, including ERP, construction management tools, timekeeping, payroll, and more.
  • Lead day-to-day IT operations, ensuring stability, security, and efficiency of infrastructure and services.
  • Collaborate with departments to understand business needs and implement IT solutions that improve productivity and effectiveness.
  • Develop and enforce IT policies, procedures, and best practices aligned with business goals and cybersecurity standards.
  • Assist in managing IT projects, including new system implementations, upgrades, and integrations.
  • Monitor, assess, and improve cybersecurity practices to protect company data and systems.
  • Participate in the development and execution of IT strategic plans that align with organizational priorities.
  • Support and mentor IT team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Prepare reports and provide insights on IT performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.
  • Act as a key decision-maker and problem-solver in the absence of the Director of IT Systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive IT experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Strong technical knowledge across systems administration, networking, cloud computing, and enterprise software.
  • Proven experience managing or supporting mission-critical business systems and processes.
  • Expertise in cybersecurity frameworks, risk assessments, and data protection strategies.
  • Ability to lead hands-on and manage projects from concept to completion.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities; able to work across departments and levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the construction industry or with construction-related software (preferred but not required).
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect / Systems Administrator
  • CompTIA Security+ / Network+
