About the position

Apicha Community Health Center's mission is to provide affordable healthcare for underserved and vulnerable people living in the New York City boroughs and on the lower east side of Manhattan. Our rapidly growing medical facilities are seeking to fill multiple positions with hard-working, professionally minded, and socially conscious individuals who believe in our core values and are passionate about helping others. We are seeking a customer-oriented and professional Dental Office Assistant for our Jackson Heights site. The successful candidate will be responsible for scheduling appointments, registering patients, completing insurance verifications, pre-authorizations and follow-up on dental inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Greet all patients and provide basic orientation to the center and all available services.
  • Create and submit referral forms to all dental insurances.
  • Respond to all dental related questions from patients regarding referrals and emergency referrals.
  • Provide updated dental insurance changes to patients, including fee schedules from PPO/HMO dental plans.
  • Assist billing department by verifying EOBs and claims.
  • Keep an updated list of the dental insurance contact information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 2 years of working experience required.
  • Some college education with 1 year of working experience preferred.
  • Experience in hospital or community health center preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Hindi, Bangla, Urdu).
  • Knowledge of eClinicalWorks EMR is preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to communicate dental procedures and terminology with dental team and patients.
  • Engaged in learning and continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent customer service skills are required.
  • Responsive and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high accountability environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for long hours required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
