About the position

The DCNR Ranger Trainee position at the Promised Land State Park Complex is designed for individuals passionate about protecting natural resources and promoting environmental education. This role involves a comprehensive training program to develop skills necessary for public service, safety, and law enforcement within state parks. Rangers will engage with visitors, ensuring their safety and enjoyment while fostering responsible use of park resources.

Responsibilities

• Undergo a one-year formal and on-the-job training program.
• Act as a public service, safety, and law enforcement officer for the park complex.
• Safeguard park visitors, the environment, and facilities.
• Engage with the public to encourage responsible use of resources and amenities.
• Maintain confidentiality as required.

Requirements

• Completion of 15 college credits in relevant fields such as natural or environmental sciences, or equivalent experience.
• Six months of experience providing visitor services in a public park or similar environment, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment.
• Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
• Successful completion of a structured law enforcement training program during the trainee period.
• Certification in standard first aid and CPR during the trainee period.
• Pass psychological testing (MMPI) and background checks.
