About the position

The position involves working closely with at-risk students to provide support and assistance in their educational journey. The role requires a commitment to upholding school rules and regulations while creating a conducive learning environment. The individual will assist in planning and developing instructional materials tailored to the needs of at-risk students, utilizing various teaching methods and techniques. Responsibilities also include supervising students, maintaining classroom order, and supporting the teacher with administrative tasks and record-keeping. The role may involve direct interaction with students, including assisting with personal care needs as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administration regulations, and state and local board policy.
  • Plan, prepare, and develop instructional materials considering individual needs and learning levels of at-risk students.
  • Assist with special teaching tools, techniques, and equipment.
  • Present subject matter to at-risk students using various methods such as lecture, discussion, and role-playing.
  • Assist at-risk students with instructional assignments to reinforce learning concepts, both individually and in groups.
  • Create an effective learning environment for at-risk students, maintaining displays of their work and skills.
  • Supervise at-risk students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual at-risk students.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and assist the teacher with administrative records and reports.
  • Assist in lifting, changing, and feeding at-risk students as needed.
  • Participate in special events as assigned and provide orientation to substitute teachers.
  • Perform duplicating work for teachers and prepare materials for at-risk students.
  • Follow established safety procedures and maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and professional growth by attending in-service and meetings.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) in English required.
  • One year experience working with at-risk students or parents in relevant settings such as church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, or licensed day care centers.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as lesson plans and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of at-risk students.
