About the position

The Data Scientist position within Amazon's Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) team focuses on automating and optimizing the supply chain of physical goods. The role involves analyzing large datasets, developing sophisticated algorithms, and collaborating with other scientists and academic researchers to enhance inventory management under uncertainty. The Data Scientist will contribute to research, communicate insights to business stakeholders, and improve machine learning methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Analyze large amounts of data from different parts of the supply chain and their associated business functions.
• Improve existing machine learning methodologies by developing new data sources and testing model enhancements.
• Run computational experiments and fine-tune model parameters for new models.
• Formalize assumptions about model behavior and develop methods to identify outliers.
• Communicate insights and recommendations to business customers with varying levels of technical knowledge.
• Utilize coding languages (Python, R, Scala, etc.) for data analysis and model building.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python), or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab).
• 4+ years of experience as a data scientist.
• Experience with statistical models such as multinomial logistic regression.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with data visualization tools such as AWS QuickSight, Tableau, or R Shiny.
• Experience managing data pipelines.
• Experience as a leader and mentor on a data science team.
