About the position

Zions Bancorporation is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join their Enterprise Technology and Operations (ETO) team. This role is crucial for the Data Lake Modernization project, where the Data Engineer will help establish and implement migration patterns, ensuring a smooth transition of use cases from on-premises data storage to Databricks on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The ideal candidate will embody leadership, problem-solving, and agile methodologies while collaborating with various teams to drive innovation and efficiency in data management.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement migration patterns for the Data Lake Modernization project.
  • Migrate use cases from on-premises Data Lake to Databricks on GCP.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and business partners to understand use case requirements and reporting.
  • Adhere to internal development best practices/lifecycle (e.g. Testing, Code Reviews, CI/CD, Documentation).
  • Document and showcase feature designs/workflows.
  • Participate in team meetings and discussions around product development.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and design patterns.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of development experience with Spark (PySpark), Python, and SQL.
  • Extensive knowledge in building data pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks.
  • Strong experience with Git.
  • Strong experience developing on Linux OS.
  • Experience with scheduling and orchestration (e.g. airflow, prefect, dagster, control-m).
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, data structures, and design principles.
  • Comfortable communicating with teams via showcases/demos.
  • Familiarity with Agile Development Methodologies (e.g. SAFe, Kanban, Scrum).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years experience with GIT.
  • 3+ years experience with CI/CD (e.g. Azure Pipelines).
  • Experience with streaming technologies, such as Kafka and Spark.
  • Experience building applications on Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Cloud experience (e.g. Azure, Google).
