About the position

The Data Analyst I position at the University of Rochester is a critical role within the Payment Posting/Data Control Group, requiring a blend of analytical skills and independent judgment. The Data Analyst I will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, and distributing reports to Senior Management, ensuring that all data is accurate and timely. The role involves a significant amount of collaboration with various departments, including Patient Financial Services and University Finance, to address cash reconciliation issues and ensure compliance with accounting procedures. The responsibilities of the Data Analyst I are diverse and include managing the processing of electronic remittances, coordinating financial activities across departments, and troubleshooting electronic remittance problems. The analyst will also be tasked with reviewing and correcting claims, analyzing billing errors, and serving as a liaison between external agencies and Information Systems. Special projects will be assigned, requiring the analyst to communicate effectively with administrators and participate in the development and implementation of new systems and processes. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. In addition to the core responsibilities, the Data Analyst I will prepare and summarize reports for Finance and PFS leadership, providing insights into the impact of recommended changes. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely processing of electronic remittances, including downloading 835 files from payer sites and maintaining logs.
  • Coordinate financial activities of URMC and University departments to resolve cash reconciliation issues and ensure data accuracy.
  • Manage various departmental activities, including reviewing daily Epic claim runs and correcting claims in Relay Health.
  • Complete special projects as assigned, including communication with other departments and participation in strategic planning.
  • Prepare, distribute, and summarize reports required by Finance and PFS leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 1-2 years of professional Accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience in Microsoft programs including Excel, Access, and Outlook
  • Epic experience preferred
