Dance and Theatre Teacher

About the position

The Teacher of Dance and Theatre for Grades 7-12 at Palisades Park Jr/Sr High School is responsible for developing students' dance and theatre skills under the supervision of the School Principal. The position involves creating and administering classes that align with school district goals and state mandates, planning lessons that cater to individual student needs, and fostering a safe and engaging learning environment. The teacher will also assess student progress, maintain accurate records, and coordinate extracurricular activities such as performances and assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Develops and administers Dance and Theatre classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
• Develop and implement an instructional program consistent with policies aligned to State mandates.
• Plans a program of study and lessons that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Exhibits a high degree of knowledge of content-related pedagogy.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences.
• Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and social skills.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities.
• Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field.
• Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting.
• Assists in coordinating extra-curricular activities, including student performances and assemblies.
• Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication.
• Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies.
• Coordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
• Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment.

Requirements

• Candidate must hold proper New Jersey certification as a Dance/Theatre teacher.
• Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
