About the position

The Child Welfare Services Team Leader plays a crucial role in supervising case managers within the Foster Care area of the South Carolina Department of Social Services. This position is focused on ensuring the safety, permanency, and well-being of children and families by providing guidance, training, and support to staff while adhering to agency policies and practices. The Team Leader is responsible for conducting case consultations, facilitating meetings, and ensuring compliance with legal and procedural requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision to case managers in the Child Welfare Service area of Foster Care.
  • Conduct case consultations, coaching, training, and support in accordance with DSS Policy and Agency Mission.
  • Perform on-call duties and provide support to on-call staff.
  • Promote safety, permanency, and well-being by ensuring fidelity to policy and procedures.
  • Conduct case consultations and reviews, facilitate meetings, and monitor policy changes.
  • Ensure completion of Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessments and Family Permanency Plans.
  • Ensure timely referrals for services and least intrusive interventions for families.
  • Monitor adherence to court orders and address legal barriers impacting permanency.
  • Engage and collaborate with child welfare staff, families, and other professionals.
  • Participate in hiring and training of new employees and promote equal opportunity.
  • Complete performance evaluations on direct reports biannually and upon request.
  • Maintain child welfare certification and complete required training yearly.
  • Safeguard personal identifying information (PII) and agency data.
  • Perform emergency shelter duties as directed.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Behavioral Science, or Social Science.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in any other field with one (1) year experience in a related field.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a motor vehicle.
