We are looking for our next Customs Compliance Specialist to join our Compliance and Consulting team in downtown Montreal. Do you have solid expertise in Canadian customs regulations, HS classification, quality control and customs compliance? At Axxess, your expertise will have a direct impact on service quality, risk management and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in customs compliance or a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian customs laws and regulations and of HS classification, trade agreements and customs clearance procedures
  • Experience identifying non-compliance issues and correcting customs transactions
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, recognize exceptions, evaluate information and resolve contradictions
  • Client service and communication skills, with the ability to advise, guide and support clients and internal teams
  • Autonomy and sound judgment, with the ability to manage several projects at once
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
  • Bilingualism in English and French, to communicate with clients and colleagues across Canada

Nice To Haves

  • Professional competency certificate for customs brokers
  • Experience with CARM and/or Descartes
  • Certified Customs Specialist designation

Responsibilities

  • Establish and validate HS classifications for clients’ imported products
  • Review complex transactions submitted for compliance and quality control, including cases related to anti-dumping duties
  • Perform internal quality controls as part of the Axxellence program and ensure compliance with quality control criteria such as SIMA, surtaxes and other regulatory requirements
  • Create and maintain line codes / parts codes in client databases
  • Maintain and update client databases, including the management of certificates of origin
  • Participate in customs compliance consulting projects
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes and Canadian import regulations
  • Coordinate the collection of information and documentation from clients to support customs operations
