About the position

The position involves maintaining full compliance with US Customs Brokerage Regulations and ensuring that the team adheres to SEKO's compliance policy and departmental goals. The role includes providing clear instructions to the team for timely and orderly file flow, which encompasses release, billing, and auditing processes. The individual will perform routine check-ins to ensure system compliance and compatibility, and assist in managing the brokerage department staff, which includes performance management, career development, and disciplinary actions. Training in Import procedures will be provided to all direct reports, and the individual will monitor entry numbers and check digit verification. Upholding SEKO's Core Values and complying with SEKO's C-TPAT Security Profile is expected. Additionally, participation in the development of a safe and healthy workplace is required, along with compliance with safety instructions. Other duties may be assigned by management.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with US Customs Brokerage Regulations.
  • Monitor team performance in line with SEKO's compliance policy and department goals.
  • Provide clear instructions to the team for timely and orderly file flow including release, billing, and auditing.
  • Perform routine check-ins to ensure system compliance and compatibility.
  • Assist in managing the brokerage department staff, including performance management, career development, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure all direct reports receive training in Import procedures.
  • Monitor entry numbers and check digit verification.
  • Uphold SEKO's Core Values.
  • Comply with SEKO's C-TPAT Security Profile.
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in US Customs and International trade, with a basic understanding of customs valuation, classification, compliance/audit and trade programs.
  • Knowledge in USMCA, classification, value, marking, customs audits, compliance & opportunity reviews.
  • Client service orientation, initiative, responsiveness.
  • Team oriented and comfortable in either a leadership or team leader role.
  • Complete working knowledge of all US Customs Compliance Rules and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of related trade legislation, rules, and regulations.
  • Experience in implementing compliance processes.
  • Experience with Cargowise1 preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Some working knowledge of Foreign Trade Zones, bonded warehouses, inbond procedures.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • US Customs Brokers License or Certified Customs Specialist preferred
