About the position

The Kootenai County Assessor's Office is seeking a Customer Service Technician I to support and guide clerical staff, respond to complex public inquiries, and ensure accurate processing of property-related exemptions and assessments. Responsibilities

  • Serve as acting lead in the absence of the Administrative Secretary Lead and Administrative Manager.
  • Handle complex customer inquiries related to property assessments, mapping, land records, parcel changes, and exemptions.
  • Conduct detailed research using internal databases and external sources to validate property documentation and exemption eligibility.
  • Audit and enter property and exemption data across multiple live systems.
  • Work closely with management to streamline administrative processes and improve efficiency.
  • Compose professional correspondence, maintain procedure manuals, and assist with timesheets and basic financial tracking.
  • Represent the Assessor's Office with professionalism, diplomacy, and a helpful attitude.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (or equivalent) plus five or more years of increasingly responsible administrative experience, including at least two years in a Clerk III role or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), database systems, and GIS (ArcView) preferred.
  • Experience guiding, mentoring, or supervising others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to a broad audience.
  • Knowledge of property tax exemptions and valuation.
  • Knowledge of legal property documents (deeds, probates, trusts, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Idaho Code Title 63 and Idaho State Tax Commission regulations.
  • Typing speed 60+ words per minute and 10-key proficient.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of advanced training courses in mapping, real property law, and Assessor software systems within the first year of employment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
