About the position

McIntosh County Academy is seeking a dedicated, dynamic, and student-centered CTAE (Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education) teacher to lead instruction in the Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and Tourism career pathways. The ideal candidate will deliver engaging, real-world learning experiences aligned with Georgia's CTAE curriculum, helping students develop technical, academic, and employability skills for postsecondary education and successful careers in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver standards-based instruction aligned with Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) and CTAE Pathways, including Introduction to Culinary Arts, Culinary Arts I & II, Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism, and related courses.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that integrate academic content, technical competencies, and workplace readiness skills.
  • Provide students with hands-on experiences in food preparation, kitchen and food safety, event planning, customer service, tourism operations, and recreation management.
  • Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications (e.g., ServSafe, NOCTI).
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom and lab environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to meet diverse learning styles and improve student achievement.
  • Foster student engagement through participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) such as FCCLA and DECA.
  • Coordinate work-based learning opportunities such as job shadowing, internships, and field trips in collaboration with local businesses and community partners.
  • Support career readiness by teaching soft skills, professionalism, and workplace ethics in line with Georgia's Work-Based Learning (WBL) standards.
  • Evaluate student progress through formative and summative assessments, projects, and portfolio reviews.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, academic progress, certification attainment, and program completion.
  • Attend professional development and training sessions to stay informed about industry trends, best instructional practices, and curriculum updates from the Georgia Department of Education.
  • Participate actively in school and district events, faculty meetings, and collaborative planning sessions.

Requirements

  • Valid Georgia teaching certificate in Culinary Arts or Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism (or eligibility for GaPSC certification through an approved pathway).
  • Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Tourism, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Georgia's CTAE curriculum standards and hospitality/culinary industry expectations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry experience in culinary, hospitality, tourism, or travel services.
  • ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
  • Experience with project-based learning and student organization advisement (FCCLA, DECA).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and technology integration skills.
  • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
