About The Position

The CT/XR Technologist is responsible for maintaining active status in their practiced modalities and assisting the department coordinator with clinical leadership, projects, advanced clinical duties, and regular assignments. They are competent in all exams within their assigned modalities, corroborate patient clinical history with procedures, and prepare patients for procedures by providing instructions and ensuring comfort. The technologist operates imaging equipment, captures images, and positions patients appropriately. They practice aseptic technique, prepare and administer contrast media, start and maintain IV access, and initiate basic life support when necessary. Patient education, input for supply and equipment decisions, inventory management, and providing practical instruction for students and partners are also key responsibilities. They observe universal protocol, standard precautions, and appropriate patient identifiers, applying patient safety principles throughout all procedures, including assisting and transporting patients. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program
  • Two to four years of experience in Radiography
  • One year experience in CT required
  • ARRT registered in Radiography and CT.
  • IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois
  • WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin
  • BLS/CPR required within 90 days of hire
  • Experience in working with radiologic technologists, radiologists and support staff in a multimodality department
  • Proficiency in mentoring employees and providing corrective action appropriately
  • Ability to communicate in a friendly and effective manner
  • Demonstrated ability to foster excellent teamwork in a radiology department
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to work independently
  • Read/comprehend written and verbal instructions
  • Basic PC skills
  • Manage stress appropriately
  • Make decisions under pressure and handle multiple priorities
  • Manage anger/fear/hostility/violence of others appropriately

Nice To Haves

  • CT experience in a hospital environment preferred
  • Experience in obtaining departmental accreditation

Responsibilities

  • Maintains active status in the modalities in which they practice.
  • Assists the department coordinator by providing clinical leadership, completes projects, advanced level clinical duties and regular assignments as requested.
  • Is competent in all exams performed within the assigned modalities.
  • Corroborates patient clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist.
  • Prepares the patient for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices, and accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort; immobilizes patient as necessary.
  • Practices aseptic technique as necessary.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed; starts and maintains intravenous access.
  • Initiates basic life support action when necessary.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Provides input for supply and equipment decisions, maintains control of inventory and supplies for assigned area.
  • Provides practical instruction for students and partners.
  • Observes universal protocol, standard precautions and appropriate patient identifiers.
  • Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.
  • Other duties, tasks as assigned.
