About the position

The CPI Investigation Worker Trainee is responsible for investigating claims of child abuse and neglect, working to ensure the safety and well-being of children. This role involves conducting forensic investigations, interviewing involved parties, assessing risks, and recommending necessary interventions. The position requires quick responses to crisis situations and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining objectivity and empathy.

Responsibilities

  • Respond quickly in crisis situations involving children who may be in an abusive or neglectful situation.
  • Conduct forensic investigations of reports of abuse/neglect to determine if abuse or neglect occurred.
  • Assess child safety and take necessary actions to protect the child as appropriate.
  • Interview individuals involved in the case, including parents, caregivers, and other relevant parties.
  • Document all relevant information gathered during the investigation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in a regular on-call rotation for after-hours response to abuse/neglect situations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement, judicial officials, and community resources.
  • Attend and participate in training, meetings, and staffings.

Requirements

  • An accredited Bachelor's degree OR an accredited Associate's degree plus two years of relevant work experience OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus two years of relevant work experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus one year of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of child development and family dynamics.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and travel for work-related appointments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in social, human, or protective services.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments and conduct home visits in challenging conditions.
