About the position
Avenue Bread is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Counter Staff to join our team in Bellingham. As a member of our front-of-house crew, you will work alongside 2-3 other team members each day, providing support to one another in a fast-paced environment. While the job can be demanding, especially during busy periods, the camaraderie among staff and the potential for great tips (approximately $6/hour) make it a rewarding experience. Our management team is committed to supporting staff in their roles, helping you succeed and grow within the company. We operate as a breakfast and lunch spot, allowing for a work/life balance that many employees appreciate, with shifts typically ending by 3-4 PM, leaving your evenings free. In this role, you will be responsible for various tasks, including greeting customers, taking orders, maintaining a clean work environment, and preparing coffee and espresso drinks. We are looking for individuals who can multitask effectively, communicate well with both customers and coworkers, and possess a strong sense of urgency. Responsibilities
- Greeting customers and guiding them through our large menu
- Taking orders through our POS system accurately and handling cash
- Maintaining a clean work environment behind and outside of the counter
- Pre-bussing and constant maintenance of the dining room and restroom
- Preparing coffee and espresso drinks to order
- Running out coffee and food orders while pre-bussing on your way back in
- Restocking supplies for the dining room and behind the counter
- Aiding in dishes and putting them away during downtime
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of restaurant or barista experience
- Experience with coffee/espresso is a plus (training provided)
- Experience with POS systems
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to multitask and maintain awareness of the environment
- Independent worker while also being a team player
- Understanding of the importance of setting yourself and your team up for success
- Strong and welcoming customer service skills
