About the position

This is a 10-month appointment, with an expected start date of January 1, 2025. The position involves providing personal counseling services via time-limited individual, crisis, and group modalities that support emotional and academic development of all students, particularly focusing on students holding one or more of these identities: Black/African American, Indigenous/First Generation. Responsibilities include providing educational/prevention programming, documenting sessions in accordance with legal and ethical standards, participating in committee work, maintaining a current knowledge base and Illinois clinical license, and providing consultation services for faculty, staff, parents, students, and others.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal counseling services via time-limited individual, crisis and group modalities.
  • Support emotional and academic development of all students, focusing on students holding specific identities.
  • Provide educational/prevention programming during regular office hours and occasionally after hours.
  • Document sessions accurately in Electronic Health Record system.
  • Participate in committee work and special projects as needed.
  • Maintain a current knowledge base and Illinois clinical license through continuing education.
  • Provide consultation services for faculty, staff, parents, students, and others.

Requirements

  • Hold a master's or higher degree in Counseling, Psychology or Clinical Social Work prior to employment start date.
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical and therapeutic skills and foster positive therapeutic relationships with a diverse population.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical theories, diagnoses, interventions, and referral services.
  • Experience providing group counseling.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice.

Nice-to-haves

  • Multicultural competence, including experience working with students of color, lower income backgrounds, first generation students, and LGBTQ students.
  • Understanding of social, developmental, and psychological issues faced by diverse populations in higher education.
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Experience working in a University Counseling Center.
