About The Position

This position is for the 2026-2027 school year at Fort Osage High School. The counselor will serve a caseload of students in partnership with three other counselors. This role includes seven additional contracted days to complete scheduling requirements and reports to the building principal. The Fort Osage School District prioritizes a highly competitive salary schedule and offers additional benefits. A new teachers mentor program is available for all new counselors. Licensed Professional Counselors receive an additional stipend.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Missouri Counseling Certificate
  • Responsibility includes working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods.
  • Responsibility includes directing other persons within a small work unit.
  • Responsibility includes monitoring budget expenditures.
  • Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions.
  • There is some opportunity to effect the organization’s services.

Responsibilities

  • Providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for managing the schedules and placement of assigned students.
  • Providing course curriculum, information and recommendations to students and parents.
  • Assisting in the development of goals and plans for achievement.
  • Assisting with career and college readiness.
  • Administering and/or assisting in the administration of standardized testing for the purpose of evaluating students' ability and areas of deficiency / strength for program planning and/or meeting administrative and legal requirements.
  • Assisting students in completing applications for scholarships, college, financial aid, etc.
  • Consulting with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals.
  • Coordinating assigned programs such as scholarships, peer counseling, Section 504.
  • Coordinating a variety of activities such as student course selection, student clubs, support groups, school visits for transitioning students.
  • Coordinating with teachers, college and university personnel, resource specialists and/or community members.
  • Counseling students, parents, and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school and for education/career planning.
  • Developing a variety of special programs such as career night, financial aid workshops, student orientation programs, college night programs, parent information programs.
  • Maintaining a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records.
  • Monitoring students' academic, behavior and social/emotional progress.
  • Participating in a variety of meetings, conferences, workshops, and trainings.
  • Preparing a wide variety of materials in collaboration with other staff, students and parents.
  • Presenting information to parents, students, staff, colleges, potential employers and outside agencies.
  • Researching program eligibility requirements.
  • Responding to crisis situations.
  • Scheduling a variety of activities with students such as student classes, individual student counseling sessions, small group sessions, mediation groups, WEB support, OPP Plus (At Risk), tutoring, crisis intervention.
