About The Position

The Cost Engineer plays a critical role in supporting B&S Site Development’s large‑parcel, mission‑critical civil projects by providing accurate cost analysis, forecasting, and financial controls across all phases of site development. This position partners closely with project management, estimating, field operations, procurement, and executive leadership to ensure cost visibility, disciplined financial tracking, and data‑driven decision‑making on fast‑paced, high‑volume civil projects. The ideal candidate brings experience from heavy civil, infrastructure, EPC, or large‑scale construction environments—similar to the cost engineering functions found at AECOM, Jacobs, Fluor, Bechtel, Kiewit, or other major infrastructure firms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–7 years of cost engineering, project controls, or financial analysis experience in heavy civil, infrastructure, EPC, or large‑scale construction.
  • Strong understanding of earthwork, utilities, grading, and site development cost drivers.
  • Proficiency with cost control software, production tracking tools, and Excel‑based modeling.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, schedules, and quantity takeoffs.
  • Experience with earned value, forecasting, and cost reporting methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with field teams.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive, analytical mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain detailed cost control systems for labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production rates across multiple active site development projects.
  • Develop and update monthly cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and variance reports; identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Evaluate scope changes, quantify cost impacts, and support preparation of change orders and claims documentation.
  • Monitor daily and weekly production metrics; calculate earned value and performance indices for earthwork, utilities, grading, and other civil scopes.
  • Collaborate with estimating teams to validate quantities, unit rates, and assumptions for new pursuits and project expansions.
  • Work directly with superintendents and project engineers to reconcile field quantities, equipment usage, and production logs.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly cost reports, KPIs, and dashboards for leadership review.
  • Identify cost risks and opportunities related to schedule, productivity, procurement, and subcontractor performance.
  • Maintain accurate cost coding, cost breakdown structures, and project financial data within company systems.
