The Cost Accountant – Plant plays a key role within the Plant Finance team, driving operational excellence, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and supporting strategic business decisions. This individual will support a wide range of financial, cost, and inventory functions to ensure the plant’s financial performance is transparent, controlled, and continuously improving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or closely related field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant accounting or cost accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing cost accounting, variance analysis, and inventory management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; advanced Excel skills a plus.
  • Experience with PLEX, SAP, Oracle, or other ERP systems required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently, collaboratively, and under tight deadlines.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and capable of taking on new or challenging tasks with limited guidance.
  • Comfortable working with team members at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist with month-end and weekly close tasks, including journal entries, accruals, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare and analyze plant financial reporting packages for Corporate and local management.
  • Perform monthly subledger-to-GL reconciliations, including inventory, fixed assets, AR, AP, and intercompany accounts.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Manage standard cost updates, cost rolls, and variance analysis (PPV, labor, overhead, absorption, etc.).
  • Conduct profitability analyses by customer, program, and product line versus budget and forecast.
  • Lead and coordinate the Annual Physical Inventory and cycle count program; ensure timely reconciliation and follow-through on adjustments.
  • Perform BOM and process routing audits to ensure data accuracy.
  • Support continuous improvement of inventory accuracy and shop-floor controls.
  • Support the Annual Budget and Midyear Forecast cycles for plant operations.
  • Track weekly results versus budget and forecast, highlighting opportunities and risks.
  • Track and reconcile Capital Expenditure budgets and fixed asset activity.
  • Support annual audit requirements (internal, external, interim, and year-end).
  • Perform internal control activities, including participating in shop-floor audits.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX or other applicable control frameworks.
  • Assist in developing and deploying finance-related policies and procedures plant-wide.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, Engineering, and Corporate Finance to process customer, supplier, and intercompany transactions.
  • Perform global intercompany accounting and reconciliation.
  • Assist in various special projects, financial analysis requests, and process improvement initiatives.
