The Correctional Officer position at Walker State Prison involves maintaining safety and order within the prison environment. Officers are responsible for enforcing institutional policies, conducting regular head counts, supervising inmates, and responding to emergencies. Responsibilities

• Maintain custody and security of prisoners and other incarcerated offenders.
• Conduct regular head counts and maintain routines.
• Conduct pat searches and searches of inmate bunks and spaces.
• Resolve conflicts among the inmate population.
• Supervise inmates during activities and work assignments.
• Enforce institutional policies, rules, procedures, and regulations.
• Escort offenders in transit and during temporary leaves.
• Guard facility entrances to screen visitors.
• Inspect, inventory, and maintain physical control of keys, tools, weapons, and related equipment.
• Observe conduct and behavior of offenders to prevent disturbances and escapes.
• Patrol assigned areas and report any problems.
• Prepare admission, program, release, transfer, and other reports.
• Respond to emergencies and take offenders into custody.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to pass a physical fitness test.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High level of professionalism.
• Entry-level experience in law enforcement or security.
