About the position

The Category Director at Oakley, Inc. is responsible for developing and executing the category roadmap and long-term product strategies that enhance brand equity and drive profitable growth. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to align on project timelines and ensure the successful launch of products, while also analyzing market trends and consumer insights to inform strategic decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Outline the vision for the category considering marketplace dynamics, competitive landscape, and consumer profiles.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess brand strategies and initiatives.
  • Understand business and product trends to ensure market competitiveness and appropriate segmentation.
  • Utilize data insights to make informed recommendations for optimizing brand performance.
  • Build consensus with key stakeholders on initiatives, strategies, and tactics.
  • Identify and lead innovative initiatives to keep the brand relevant and ahead of industry trends.
  • Collaborate with the Product development team to explore and implement new concepts and technologies.
  • Identify growth opportunities and drive global alignment for optimal SKU management.
  • Drive business profitability through understanding key product levers.
  • Develop product and brand portions of Annual Operating Plans for the category.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop effective go-to-market strategies.
  • Determine product pricing based on strategic direction and competitive positioning.
  • Communicate product stories to cross-functional and regional teams.
  • Collaborate with marketing to provide product input for marketing assets.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Engineering, Business Administration, Marketing, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in consumer product/category strategic roles or similar.
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to drive a product line through growth stages.
  • Ability to develop an effective team of product managers.
  • Strong leadership skills to create cross-functional partnerships.
  • Intimate understanding of the brand and core consumer.
  • Thorough knowledge of the competitive landscape and industry dynamics.
  • Effective communicator and presenter with experience in conveying complex information.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial perspective on business.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills and a passion for data-driven decisions.

Nice-to-haves
