About the position

Amazon's Legal Department is seeking a Corporate Counsel to support the infrastructure technology development, procurement, and manufacturing teams within AWS. This role involves providing legal counsel and transactional support for a variety of agreements related to hardware and software development, technology licensing, and supply chain management. The Corporate Counsel will collaborate with various internal teams to address legal, operational, and compliance issues while ensuring the successful deployment of AWS cloud infrastructure technologies globally.

Responsibilities

  • Providing business-line counseling to the HWEngS and AIS-SC teams to enable the development, manufacture, deployment, and maintenance of AWS cloud infrastructure technology globally.
  • Structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial and technology-related agreements, including development, supply, manufacturing services, software licensing, and bespoke agreements.
  • Supporting and advising business partners on legal, commercial, operational, and other risks.
  • Developing, advising on, and implementing vendor engagement, contract, and negotiation strategies with the business.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to identify and resolve commercial, operational, compliance, regulatory, security, safety, legal, and customer/vendor issues.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) and membership in one state bar or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of legal experience (with several years at a leading law firm or in-house experience).
  • Strong transactional, drafting, and negotiations experience of complex commercial or technology agreements.
  • Proven track record of strong judgment in the absence of precedence, issue spotting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience providing prompt practical, crisp, and actionable legal advice.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functionally to root cause and promptly resolve and deliver results on complicated problems.
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn and build relationships in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • 8+ years of legal experience (with several years at a leading law firm or in-house experience).
  • Experience supporting technology development, procurement, manufacturing; technology licensing; and hardware development.
  • In-house experience at a technology company.
