About the position

The Cook at Community Health Network is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of foods while maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. This role involves collaborating with department staff to ensure optimal food and nutritional services are provided to patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook foods such as meats, soups, sauces, gravies, starches, entrees, vegetables, and special orders.
  • Ensure food is prepared according to the menu.
  • Confer with supervisors regarding the use of leftovers and menu changes.
  • Maintain high standards of food handling and cleanliness in the work area.
  • Ensure personal cleanliness and hygiene standards are met.
  • Collaborate with department employees to provide optimal food and nutritional services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in food services as a cook.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to read and comprehend recipes.
  • Ability to use simple arithmetic and keep simple records.
  • Familiarity with using simple office machines and institutional cooking equipment such as meat slicers, mixers, and steamers.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, such as assembling trays and reading menus.
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations.
  • Ability to produce food items with last-minute notice and succeed under pressure.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and accept guidance.
