If you are passionate about hospitality, energetic, and thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment, Mason Street Grill is in search of a Part-Time Cook II who will maintain, set up, and prepare high-quality food at an assigned station, ensuring excellence in food production and guest satisfaction. As a Cook II at Mason Street Grill, you will be responsible for the preparation of meats, fish, fowl, sauces, stocks, seasonings, and other food items, while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, presentation, and efficiency. This role requires prior experience and technical proficiency to support a seamless kitchen operation. Mason Street Grill in downtown Milwaukee has become a local favorite for wood-grilled steaks, fresh seafood, handcrafted cocktails, and live jazz music. Requirements

  • Sufficient manual dexterity to use all kitchen equipment (knives, tongs, slicers, etc.).
  • Must own a set of knives.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. and transport materials as needed.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work in confined, noisy, or high-temperature areas.
  • Ability to perform duties in varied temperature ranges.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred. Culinary or Apprenticeship program preferred.
  • 1–2 years of prior cooking experience in a similar role required.
  • Ability to obtain local, state, or federal sanitation or food service certifications.
  • Must adhere to Local 122 Collective Bargaining Agreement regulations, with the option to obtain union membership after 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all station-specific food items according to standard recipes and guest requests, ensuring consistency of product.
  • Visually inspect, select, and use only food items ideal for preparation.
  • Check and control proper storage of products, especially stocks and sauces, and monitor portion sizes.
  • Keep refrigeration, storage, and work areas clean and compliant with Health Department regulations.
  • Ensure all equipment in working areas is clean, sanitized, and in proper condition.
  • Prepare requisitions for supplies and food items, applying math skills to ensure recipe accuracy.
  • Maintain high quality of food production and presentation.
  • Practice cleanliness, sanitation, and personal hygiene at all times.
  • Set up station, perform advance prep, and break down at the end of service.
  • Put away all food requisitioned from the storeroom.
  • Ensure coolers are cleaned, organized, and locked after use.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products, including daily trash removal.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Executive or Sous Chefs.
