About the position

The Cook is responsible for preparing hot and cold food items using various cooking methodologies, equipment, and tools. Ensures meal service demands are met consistently to provide residents at CRISTA Shores a high-end restaurant style dining experience with daily entrée specials and A La Carte menu items cooked to order. Clean and maintain a sanitary work environment while performing other essential duties as required. This position is an integral part of the Senior Living mission of providing joy and purpose to the lives of our residents.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all food by production sheets according to recipes and standards.
  • Know and follow food handling and infection control procedures, including HACCP standards.
  • Prepare food on schedule and to customer satisfaction.
  • Operate all kitchen food service equipment properly and safely.
  • Appropriately handle problems as they arise in the kitchen.
  • Participate in continuing education programs and attend meetings as required.
  • Smell and taste all food that is being prepared.
  • Know and follow essential food cost controls.
  • Maintain sanitation standards.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers, and residents.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer and participation in spiritual practices.
  • Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA's Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience cooking with raw ingredients and preparing meals from scratch including baking.
  • Able to obtain Washington State Food Handler's Permit.
  • Able to perform in a team environment.
  • Able to read recipes and listen and follow instructions.
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Able to use weights, measures, and volume measurements in cooking.
  • Strong communication skills, honesty, and dependability.
  • Adhere to dress codes.
  • Must adhere to CRISTA's policies, procedures, and beliefs.
  • Read, write, communicate in and interpret English at a functional level.

  • Previous line cooking in restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and senior living facilities.
