About the position

The Cook position in Food & Nutritional Services at Mercy is integral to supporting the organization's philosophy of patient-centered care. This role involves preparing fresh, nutritious food for patients, families, staff, and physicians in a caring and sanitary manner. The Cook is responsible for ensuring that all food is prepared in an attractive way while adhering to safety and regulatory guidelines. The position requires maintaining a clean and organized work area, which is essential for food safety and quality. The Cook will work with the CBORD program to follow recipes accurately, ensuring consistency in food preparation and presentation. This role also emphasizes effective communication with co-workers and managerial staff to ensure smooth operations within the kitchen environment. In addition to food preparation, the Cook must demonstrate independent decision-making skills and possess knowledge in volume food preparation. The position requires competency in specific skills as outlined in the core competencies for the role. The Cook will also be expected to attend a nutrition course provided by Mercy Medical Center within the first six months of employment to enhance their knowledge and skills in food and nutrition. This position is full-time, with a schedule of four days a week, including day and evening shifts, and every other weekend off.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food for patients, staff, and special functions.
  • Work with the CBORD program to follow recipes and ensure consistent products.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Prepare food in accordance with proper food handling procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and managerial staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Associates Degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
  • Some background in institutional cooking preferred.
  • Servsafe certification preferred.
  • Must attend Mercy Medical Center nutrition course within six months.
