About the position

The Controls Engineer at Conagra Brands serves as the engineering lead in the electrical and controls discipline, focusing on developing and improving sitewide electrical control designs and safety standards. This role supports project teams in executing electrical and controls scopes of work while implementing programs to enhance control capabilities across the organization, particularly in Food Plant Control Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Navigate and program all Allen Bradley Software Platforms (RS Logix 5, RS Logix 500, RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, Factory Talk View ME)
  • Program Allen Bradley and ABB Variable Frequency Drives, managed network switches (Stratix), Process Control Devices.
  • Monitor, maintain and install building automation systems for HVAC, fume hoods, exhaust fans, environmental growth chambers and related systems.
  • Collaborate with platform engineering groups to develop annual and 3-year capital plans recommending automation, controls, and power distribution improvements.
  • Assist in developing site-wide standards, guidelines, and templates for automation, control hardware, software, and programming.
  • Develop and implement programs to build plant control systems and support systems such as servo control, HMI's, Networking, and VFD's.
  • Provide site-wide support for control obsolescence and control software update issues.
  • Collaborate with technical and procurement groups to manage and drive value and cost savings from Rockwell as a strategic supplier.
  • Assist in developing rough order of magnitude estimates for projects.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines to design and specify effective control solutions within the enterprise-wide method of Front Ending Loading Packages (FEL's).
  • Perform reviews of FEL packages for accuracy, completeness, and operational effectiveness.
  • Provide on-site technical support to project and plant teams during design reviews and start-up activities.
  • Provide emergency technical support for equipment modifications in upset conditions.
  • Assist in providing recommendations and oversight of 3rd party integrators.
  • Incorporate the latest automation and control technology and industry regulations into practices.

Requirements

  • A BS degree in Electrical Engineering with 3-10 years of practical experience in electrical/control system design.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley PLC's, Panel View HMI's, and Rockwell Automation Software (RSLogix5000 and FTView).
  • A minimum of 3+ years' experience in PLC programming or equivalent technical schooling and experience.
  • Network integration capabilities with PLC's, HMI's, and CIP.
  • Understanding of network hardware and software security.
  • Ability to work with integration and ERP systems.
  • Strong leadership qualities and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of food manufacturing regulations is a plus.
  • Excellent technical knowledge, technical analysis, problem-solving skills, and project organizational skills.
