About The Position

BMG is a global organization representing the world’s most extensive thermoforming portfolio in the following industries: automotive, medical, electronics, horticulture, food, and process automation. We are searching for a Controls Engineer with experience in electrical design as well as experience in programming PLCs or motion-controlled systems. This position is located in Beaverton, MI with the option of working remotely 40% of the time once initial training has been completed. Our Controls Engineers are responsible for designing, programming, updating, and troubleshooting various PLC based control systems. They are responsible for electrical/controls design modifications to standard equipment and new equipment design. We have a distributed team of engineers that collaborate across our sites on thermoforming packaging solutions. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, can work in a team environment, has the ability to plan, schedule and problem solve effectively, and can work independently with little or no supervision.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a minimum of 1 year work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of controls (PLC, HMI, and Motion Controlled Programs)
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering design practices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills on a technical level.
  • A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Make necessary electrical panel layout drawings, electrical designs, and electrical CAD schematics to ensure design meets industry and regulatory standards and project requirements.
  • Make appropriate calculations, research performance standards and component selection to ensure design specifications are met.
  • Design various sections of equipment to meet required specifications.
  • Prepare bills of material and other paperwork per internal standards.
  • Attend and participate in design reviews for evaluation of work order requirements to design, and cost implications.
  • Design and develop machine logic in PLC, operator interface applications and program servo motion controls.
  • Change drawings in accordance with ECO procedure.
  • Check drawings and bills of materials as relates to assigned projects.
  • Ensure design considerations, concepts, and software codes are documented.
  • Represent design team in work order reviews and final design reviews as required.
  • Start-up and debug machine prior to shipment.
  • Assists in field start-up and solving machine problems in field.
  • Direct various design activities on assigned projects.
  • Review with design team to ensure quality and internal design practices are being met.
  • Travel as required for the role.
